Thing 8: Communication - Web 2.0 Style

1) Instant Messaging~
I gotta say, I've never used it, I really am a visually oriented person; I like to talk to people face to face. I know that the library uses it for ask a Librarian.
2) Text Messaging (SMS—Short Message Service~
I don't use it. Feels like a foreign language. The only kind that I'm familiar with is @#$^$%7.
3) Web Conferencing~
We've been using Web Conferencing for a few year, Which I like because I don't like driving the county vehicle to seminars outside of the county, plus it's a real time saver.

First off I would never use Technorati, I really don't care for this web page style, so I would never use it. I like clean uncluttered pages, due to suffering from sensory integration dysfunction.

Thing #2

Library 2.0
“Library 2.0 simply means making your library’s space (virtual and physical) more interactive, collaborative, and driven by community needs. Examples of where to start include blogs, gaming nights for teens, and collaborative photo sites. The basic drive is to get people back into the library by making the library relevant to what they want and need in their daily lives…to make the library a destination and not an afterthought.” ~
Sarah Houghton http://librarianinblack.typepad.com/

This all sounds great, but my concern as we move further and further into a Internet based world is that people who are not technologically savvy will be left behind. We need to bear in mind that some people don't have the ability, language skills or fiances to interact with computers, or in my Mother's case just plain terrified.

WEB 2.0
Well, I think I found the best definition of Web 2.0. "Web 1.0 was commerce. Web 2.0 is people,"~ Ross Mayfield, the CEO of SocialText

Well, here's my 1st blog, although maybe I'm wrong about that, I do have a vague recollection of creating another blog for a past NEFLIN class. So maybe I'm already out there taking up room in cyberspace.
